Spring Reflection: A Journey of Space Rejuvenation

Yan De Jiang Transforms an Old Residence into a Modern Sanctuary

Exploring the transformation of a 30-year-old house into a contemporary home, Yan De Jiang's Spring Reflection project showcases a blend of simplicity, comfort, and French vintage aesthetics.

The challenge of renovating a decades-old residence is not just about updating its style but also about infusing it with new life that can endure for years to come. Yan De Jiang has masterfully accepted this challenge in the Spring Reflection project. The design reimagines a 1281.24 square-foot space to accommodate a couple and their future child, ensuring the home is ready to capture their life's most beautiful moments for the next two decades.

One of the project's key features is the innovative use of a TV wall and a curved iron piece to seamlessly integrate the existing staircases into the home's design, eliminating visual conflicts and creating a harmonious flow throughout the space. The design's strength lies in its ability to rearrange excess space while maintaining a cozy ambiance, enhanced by a touch of French vintage charm.

Yan De Jiang's approach to design realization is particularly noteworthy, breaking from traditional cabinet layouts and extending the visual axis to other walls and levels, thus diversifying the visual experience. The color palette is intentionally limited to three main elements, fostering simplicity and a unique aesthetic that heightens brand recognition.

Spring Reflection's interaction with its inhabitants is thoughtful and sustainable. German Egger wooden flooring covers the original tiles, while existing brick partitions are retained and repurposed, reducing waste and consumption. The house's functions have been adjusted for sustainability, embracing the 3R concept—reduce, reuse, recycle—and extending the building's lifespan with waterproof paint on exterior walls and the roof.

The design's research foundation is the 4.2-meter high ceiling, which affords a spacious layout. The space is defined by Y-shaped elements that extend to the ceiling, staircase handrails, and TV wall, creating an infinite visual extension. The main color, keim beige paint, varies with light, offering diverse life experiences. A custom-made iron screen at the entrance and 16 patterns of French vintage tiles in the kitchen contribute to the space's uniqueness.

Completed in December 2022 in Taipei, Taiwan, Spring Reflection is a testament to Yan De Jiang's ability to turn old memories into new beginnings. The project has been recognized with a Bronze A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024, celebrating its creative ingenuity and contribution to enhancing quality of life.
